A route starting from Rifugio Schiazzera that reaches the panoramic trail leading to the Schiazzera lakes.
On the return, the route allows you to discover Malga di Schiazzera.
The refuge, owned by the Municipality of Vervio, was created through the renovation carried out in 1997 of a former Guardia di Finanza barracks. The presence of a Guardia di Finanza post in this area should not come as a surprise, as the upper Val Saiento allows relatively easy passage to the Poschiavo Valley (via the pass known as Portone) and to the nearby Valle Piana, a lateral branch of western Val Grosina. From there, it is again possible to reach the Poschiavo Valley by several routes.
This explains the passage of the spalloni — smugglers — along these paths during the years of contraband activity, as well as the enforcement actions carried out by the Guardia di Finanza.
Rifugio Schiazzera is entirely run by volunteers who contribute to fundraising efforts to support the missions of Operazione Mato Grosso in Latin America, as well as the many projects carried out by lay missionaries and priests during the various O.M.G. missions.
