February 5 marks National Food Waste Prevention Day, an important opportunity to reflect on the value of food, the resources required to produce it, and the impact that everyday choices can have on the environment and society.
Educating about sustainability, starting in schools
Latteria di Chiuro’s commitment to preventing food waste did not begin today. For years, the dairy has been actively involved in schools across Valtellina, developing educational projects and workshops focused on sustainable food practices.
These initiatives are primarily aimed at young people — but not exclusively — and explore key topics such as:
- the value of food and raw materials
- respect for natural resources
- reducing waste in everyday life
- the importance of conscious food choices
This awareness-raising work starts with education and knowledge, because preventing waste ultimately means changing habits and fostering a more mindful and responsible food culture.
Latteria di Chiuro and joining Regusto
In December 2024, Latteria di Chiuro joined Regusto, a platform that brings together companies, institutions and organisations with the aim of reducing food waste, making the most of surplus food and promoting a more sustainable model of food management.
Regusto operates through digital tools and concrete initiatives that promote food recovery and redistribution, while fostering greater awareness across the entire supply chain. In doing so, it helps generate environmental, social and economic value.
This is a path that Latteria di Chiuro has chosen to embrace, in line with its values and its sense of responsibility towards the local community.
A commitment looking to the future
On National Food Waste Prevention Day, Latteria di Chiuro reaffirms its dedication to a more conscious, sustainable and respectful food supply chain.
This commitment takes shape through concrete choices, partnerships and educational initiatives, with the aim of valuing food in all its forms and contributing, day after day, to the reduction of waste.
